To understand why I still carry the burden of what I could have done differently
Living with guilt from the past, my pets , my family, my parents, if I only knew more back then
I understand this more than you probably realise. I still carry guilt about things I wish I had handled differently people, family, choices I made before I understood myself the way I do now.
I think guilt is a normal part of being human. It often shows that we care, that we have grown, and that we would choose differently today. But we cannot allow it to become a life sentence or keep punishing ourselves for not knowing then what we know now.
You are allowed to acknowledge the past, learn from it, make peace where you can, and still keep living. The guilt may still visit, but it does not deserve to control your life.
And when you say, 'I’m still alive,' I just want to check are you safe right now? You do not have to carry all of this alone. Guilt, regret and the weight of hindsight are far more common than people often admit. They are normal human experiences, but they should not be allowed to become so heavy that they take over your life.
